The History of MUUSA

Our organization was not always the Midwest Unitarian Universalist Summer Assembly. For over sixty years, we were known as the Lake Geneva Summer Assembly, due to our proximity to Lake Geneva in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. We held our camp at George Williams College, part of Aurora University. Unfortunately, GWC chose to remove almost half of its housing at the end 2006, in an effort to change its long-term direction, and we forced to close our relationship with them. We found a temporary home in 2007 at Olympia Hotel & Resort, where we chose a new location, along with a new name.

Although the populace was divided on where we should move, we eventually decided on Trout Lodge, part of YMCA Lake of the Ozarks, in Potosi, Missouri.

2010 celebrates our third year at Trout Lodge and our success in the two year prior, led the planning council to expand the housing into the neighboring Camp Lakewood.  This housing expansion create more appropriate dorm-like spaces for the Jr. High and Sr. High programs, bedrooms with added privacy for the 18-20 year olds and more housing options for the adults.  Come grow with us!
